kitcen fun times
so here we are, back in Ut, for a second, at least. and while i'm here i have been very busy searching EVERYWHERE for a job...and baking. i know, i know, bizarre. i don't cook. i burn, spill, contaminate every food item i try to make. but as far as baking is concerned, i think it is kinda fun. *giggle* at any rate, here are some photographs of some stuff i've made recently. enjoy!! (the above photo is a Lady Bug cake i made for my 4 yr old niece, Ella. below is the body of the cake before frosting!)
These delightful cupcakes have chocolate cream cheese frosting (super easy to make).
- 1 8 oz package cream cheese at room temperature
- 1/2 stick at room temperature
- 3 C sifted powdered sugar
- 1/2 C cocoa powder
- Mix cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
- Mix in powdered sugar, one cup at a time.
- Mix in cocoa powder.

- meet my friend Peter Yarrow. we sang Puff the Magic Dragon together during a sound check for a legislative briefing on the Performance Rights Act. he made fun of me for chewing gum...
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff,
and brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. Oh
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff's gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow whene'er they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flags when Puff roared out his name. Oh
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave,
So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. Oh
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee

I saw the play Little Shop of Horrors at the Ford Theater (where Lincoln was shot). That area surrounded by American flags is where Abey was sitting when he was killed.

happy to me!
it's my birthday. the end.
also, here is the best thing i have read so far this morning:
“We’re paying for both sides of the war [in Iraq and Afghanistan], and we’re going to go down in history as the dumbest crowd that ever showed up, because we had a resource that would replace OPEC oil, and we didn’t use it.” -- T. Boone Pickens

a right to remember
tonight i attended this event. it was truly heart breaking. performed much like the spectacular vagina monologues. it was extremely interesting. thanks to leslie for knowing about it and finding our lost way there!

on a much more joyful note, at the drive-in!!!!! hells-yes! undoubtedly my favorite album. just something about this album, 'relationship of command', blows my mind. the most amazing part is that its perfect for every wack-a-doo emotion i whirlwind through. angry? perfect. happy? perfect. giggly? perfect. dancing naked in the shower? perfect (and completed as of tonight). i usually continue to love bands, but am unable to continue listening to them years later, this band though has stuck it out. they satisfy my every need. i seriously don't even need a boyfriend when i have this album at my side! this is love. this is empowerment.

i cleaned my shower/bathtub tonight. (hence the opportunity to listen to at the drive-in and dance mighty enthusiastically in the shower). when i lived in vancouver washington i noticed that their curb-side garbage cans say "Vancouver Sparkles", now when ever i think of something sparkling i say that slogan in my head. weird. i know. and thus it was said when i finished scrubben the tub!
the end
because sometimes people need to be made fun of:

i almost forgot!!
3.2.10!!! that is the date today! a count down to how great of a month March is! (its only so great cuz of Eli and my birthdays! hurray for us!)
highlights of my morning
- Andean bear at the National Zoo had two cubs!!
- and apparently the Fort Totten metro station has raccoons. i kind of like raccoons. even though they are a little bit scary.
- Went to dinner with the Isaacsons last night. Marian and my favoritest G'ma Mickey made me an adorable little blanket!
- and Eli's Birthday is in a few days!!!! HAPPY 2 YEARS OLD!!
- did i mentioned i baked on saturday?!! i know!! i'm just as shocked! i made (from scratch!!!) adorable tiny red velvet cupcakes with yummy cream cheese frosting. that said, my heart almost stopped just from seeing how much butter and disgusting cream cheese and sugar make up my favorite new treat. disgusting.

the metro could not cooperate less
- thankfully i was already at work and not on the train, but my line at my stop derailed this morning!!!! 6 car train off the tracks, packed with people. the nightmare never ends. they have K st. closed, trying to get passengers out and ok.
- the best part is that the metro was extra crowded today (at least as far this week goes) because the rest of the DC working world resumed, deeming it safe to leave their homes after "snowmageddon". Jokes on them.
2.08.2010
Snowmageddon
the facts:
- 18 inches recorded at Reagan Internat'l Airport
- 32 inches recorded at Dulles Internat'l Airport
- people went crazy and left the grocery store shelves bare
- stores sold out of snow shovels
- we tried to make a snowperson, alas, DC does not produce packing snow
- work was canceled on monday (today) but nobody told me until it was too late
- saw people unburrying their cars by hand, one dude with a lacrosse stick
- metro has become overwhelmingly dysfunctional
- exhibit A: i waited for the train for 40 min.s this morning (before i was told i didn't need to go into work)no one knows if it ever showed up. (no one being me)
- sledding would be great if we could get to a store to buy a sled, but we can't
- this is DC's 4th worst storm in history
- truly this storm has paralyzed the city, and i wish it would grow up and learn to cope with snow
- the end
